Spock’s Dying Words

I’ve already discussed the movie “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” (Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_II:_The_Wrath_of_Khan) in https://hannosteinerdenkt.de/en/kobayshi-maru-maneuver/ – but here it is again.

In the story of “Star Trek II” (Amazon: https://www.amazon.de/gp/video/detail/amzn1.dv.gti.62b31854-9bd3-e2fd-36c7-95968ae74a0c), Khan, a genetically enhanced adversary from Kirk’s past, has escaped and seeks revenge by stealing the powerful Genesis technology. A tactical duel in space ensues between Khan and the starship Enterprise. In the end, Spock sacrifices himself to save the ship and becomes a tragic hero. Before his death, Spock utters the famous words

The phrase “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one.” has already achieved considerable fame. For example, it appears in “The Big Bang Theory” S01E13 ” The Bat Jar Conjecture” (Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Bang_Theory, available to buy on Amazon https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/video/detail/B0CJQMYWFS/), where the physicist Leonard tells his roommate Sheldon

which finally convinces Sheldon. 😊

It also appears in “Seinfeld” S08E01 “The Foundation” (Netflix https://www.netflix.com/watch/80132693) – where Jerry and George reminisce about the movie “Star Trek II”. 😊
